OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

A growing business is one that is expanding in one or more ways. For FirstWorks Group, our journey in the recruitment consultant industry has definitely been a prosperous one from our inception in 2014 to the many key milestones that we have achieved along the way. In this blog, we spoke to founder Vinesh Thanabalasingam and country manager, Raj Kumar, to revisit the journey of the business to this day.

Starting operations in 2014, Vinesh’s first involvement with FirstWorks Group is an unconventional one. Starting merely as an investor together with a partner at the time, Vinesh’s involvement with FirstWorks Group stemmed from his belief in the company’s strong future prospects. As his interest in the recruitment industry grew later that year, he decided he’d take it upon himself to bear responsibilities beyond the role of an investor and subsequently head the company in its entirety.

Shortly after this event, Vinesh was able to successfully acquire their first major project. This entailed providing technical manpower to the oil and gas sector, namely Petronas, in Pengerang, Johor. Whilst the contract came to its eventual end in 2019, it was also the year where country manager, Raj Kumar, came on board.

In 2016, Vinesh made the executive decision to start expanding the company beyond staffing services. Through this, he decided to provide permanent recruitment services for small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and multinational corporations (MNCs). In 2018, the company expanded its services to awarding staffing and outsourcing manpower contracts in the logistics and warehouse, e-commerce, manufacturing and engineering, and construction.

In 2021, as the coronavirus pandemic shifts to being endemic, we began to look into expanding the company’s art of training and development to help reskill the workforce to galvanise the economy. One of the training and development programs currently set in motion is curated specifically for displaced individuals, such as refugees or those who did not manage to complete their tertiary or secondary education. By partnering with established institutions such as UNHCR and Monash University Malaysia, this joint-development program aims to help educate and equip these displaced individuals with the necessary skills required to navigate and stand out in the job-seeking world. Overall, we hope to empower these individuals with the ability to earn sustainable incomes and live better lives.

Our focus with our clients have seen significant evolvement as compared to when FirstWorks Group started 7 years ago. By actively taking part in our clients’ work cultures, understanding their business needs, productivity goals, we aim to both build lives and businesses, providing lifetime opportunities to those in need.

It is what makes us a key differentiator from your usual recruitment consultant agency.
